Solo albums - Compositions

Complete discography
Since Philharmonie's disbanding and after I decided to play alone, I conceived four collections of personal compositions.

One of them, Vent, Pluie, Sable, inspired for its larger part by African music, and entirely performed on fretless guitar, left me so a painful memory that I didn't want to make a CD of it. At this time, I was gradually recovering use of my left hand, seriously injured in an accident, and the fretless guitar work, as the most difficult, seemed to me the most appropriate for re-education. I bitterly verified the opposite result. Numerous complications set in leading to new operations.

This project, though achieved, finally stayed unreleased. Therefore I decided to share it completely and freely on this site.

One title, Kalimba 2, appears on the CD "Traces".

Vent, Pluie, Sable (Wind, Rain, Sand)
Kalimba 2 - 7:50 - Composed during a sound check, and performed the same evening.
Kalimba 3 - 8:19 - Inspired by pygmy songs.
Kalimba 1 - 12:26 - Originally designed for Philharmonie.
Kalimba 4 - 7:05 - Fretless guitar used as percussion instrument.

.

Yabanci - 16:48 - Composed from a Turkish mode.
Le Mont Analogue
Le Mont Analogue (The Analogous Mount) is a "concept" album composed after a novel by René Daumal.

Undertook as my left arm was immobilized, most of its titles has been outlined on a little keyboard, some sort of toy which was at home at this time.

Little by little, as I was recovering use of my hand, guitar appeared and pieces filled out. Some keyboard parts has been however kept.

See text on Le Mont Analogue page.

The Last Step (2,19Mo)
When I decided to perform solo concerts, in 1997, I wished to play only original pieces, composed especially to be heard on stage. At the end of every performance, all recorded, I proposed a recording to the present audience, and destroyed it later.

When I stopped solo concerts, in 2001, I gathered some titles on a CD, in order to keep a trace of this period, from which the name of the album.

Most of these titles have been re-recorded in my studio, except Kalimba 2, which I took from Vent, Pluie, Sable.

The piece Les Deux Mondes (The Two Worlds) has been later fitted for the group Yang and features on the album "A Complex Nature", to be released on Cuneiform Records in September 2004.

Traces
L'Appel des Roches (Rocks Appeal) (1,92Mo)
This CD contains the last serie of compositions achieved without additional musicians.

I finished it at the end of 2002, as I began the very first rehearsals with Yang.

On this CD, I gathered rather meditative pieces, a bit reacting against the aggressiveness of my work at this moment with the improvisers trio K.L.P. and the first titles of Yang.

These are rather light, repetitive titles, quite propitious to contemplation or love...

Music for Lovers
Angel Rocking (2,56Mo)

In the same time than these three collections, I recorded three CDs of improvised solo music. However, there are no direct musical link between improvisations and compositions
